I'M BACK!!! Some of you are probably looking around the room like...who even is this chick? Some of you may have forgotten me, but hopefully my family, friends, and followers have not. I finally had the energy and courage to write a new blog post after months of no writing, many thanks to my friend who asked me about it the other day. I was embarrassed to tell her that I had stopped writing. It’s not that I don’t like writing. In fact, I love it. For those who have been following me, you know that I am not the most eloquent writer, and if you are a grammar nut I’m sure you absolutely can’t stand reading my posts as I make hundreds of grammar mistakes (Why am I even an English teacher?--true fact: my English is getting worse), misuse words, spell things incorrectly, use commas or whatever where it's not even necessary, etc. But I’m not here to be a perfect writer. I don’t use my blog to exaggerate, lie, or make up some cool story. I use it for my family and friends at home who want to know what I’ve been up to—it’s not every day that your daughter or sister or cousin or best friend or teammate travels to a foreign land and starts a new life. Hence I understand their curiosity, fear, and excitement. My friend who brought it up told me she absolutely loved reading about all my experiences, and the truth is, without my intention, I had gained readers. People I had never met were messaging me asking about where to travel in Galicia and Europe and the best ways to get around, and some just wanted to send a kind message my way saying they have enjoyed following my expat life. If you're not a fan, I don't even know how you got this far into the post. According to my stats, people were reading it weekly. I even had HGTV contact me to be on the show House Hunters International. I told very few people knowing that it probably wouldn’t work out in the end buuuuut long story short--I did apply, made a video to show off my city, had the lady pitch our story to her boss, he loved it, they passed it on to the network and loved it but said they wanted someone who had bought their own place (aka no renting, no roommates) so I’ve been put on hold. And I think I’ll be on hold forever. I don’t care that I wasn’t chosen, but I do feel some sense of pride knowing that one of their recruiters thought my story would speak to a lot of young recent college graduates thinking about the next step in their life and people who were hesitant and scared to step out of their comfort zone and move somewhere unfamiliar with no guaranteed success. I do truly enjoy sharing my experiences with all of you as everything I tell you is real—my insecurities, fears, excitement, happy moments, sad times etc.
Writing is a form of art and being able to express myself, reflect, grow, and learn is beautiful. I was never much of a writer before, but the fact that my family and friends back home are happy knowing that I am happy here through my stories and knowing that readers like hearing about my adventures has inspired me. If I can inspire or even change someone's life in some positive way, than I have done my job. If I have made you laugh or made you even more curious about what more you can do with your life, than I have my done my job. I will try my best to update the blog as much as possible and even write about some of the things I did the tail end of my year last year. As you can guess, I'm back in Spain for another year in Vigo doing what I love and living in a city I can call home. I’m throwing out TLT as I’m starting to really figure out who I am and what I’m meant to do with my life. It was a stupid name for sure, and I'm mad none of my friends had the courage to tell me.
Peace&love,
Charina
