Even if you have never been to Spain, you know that siesta time is a huge part of their culture. It's about a two hour break where stores close, children go home from school, and workers take off to eat a big lunch or nap. I haven't really adjusted to the siesta culture yet as I eat my regular turkey breast sandwhich around 1 and then go out and about. My coordinator invited me over one day for siesta with her mom and cousin to try cocido. Cocido is amazing and is usually eaten on Sundays with all your family because of how heavy and big it is. They told me after you eat this dish, you will be too full and lazy to do anything else for the rest of the day, and indeed they were right. I wanted to nothing else but nap during my two private lessons that followed siesta. The cocido dish has a lot of different meats --pork, veal, sausage, chicken, and ribs along with loads of cabbage, potatoes, and chickpeas. It's a fall/winter dish and actually reminded me of a Filipino dish I've had before. Cocido is delicious, and I definitely want to bring it back to the U.S.
