The nice thing about Vigo is that although it is a city, you can feel like you're in the country after about a short 10 minute drive out or even a 15 minute walk to one of the parks. Galicia has always been known as the Ireland or Scotland of Spain because of it's rain and greenery so this weekend I decided to take advantage of all the greenery we have instead of sleeping in until 4p.m like I had been doing the past several weekends from staying out so late and hiked Monte Galiñeiro on Saturday morning and walked through Parque de Castrelos on Sunday afternoon with some friends.
Monte Galiñeiro is about a 15 minute drive outside of Vigo and a 2 hour hike. It is one of the higher mountains of Vigo where all the islands like las islas cies and las islas ones can be seen from above. It was a pretty steep hike, and we got pricked by bushes, stepped on goat poop, and were scraped by rocks, but the view at the top was all worth it. It was a really fun hike, and I was sweating like crazy by the time we got to the top. The view was breath taking and nothing like I've ever seen before. We could see all of Vigo--the port, tall city buildings, small villages, and how green it actually is. If you're into hiking or just want to see a beautiful overlook of Vigo, this is a great place to go.
On Sunday two friends and I decided to check out el Parque de Castrelos. We strolled around the gardens and the small ponds and looked at all the beautiful flower beds, and I was reminded of fall in the U.S as all the trees were full of brightly colored red, yellow, and orange leaves. We were very lucky this weekend with two absolutely gorgeous days. Parque de Castrelos is the perfect place for an afternoon picnic or read, and I will definitely be going back there soon.
Enjoy the pictures!
