On Tuesday, the two soccer powerhouses Spain and Germany played against each other at Balaidos, the soccer stadium about 30 minutes from my apartment. Luckily a friend told me about it right when the tickets were on sale so we were able to get good seats for a good price. To prepare, we bought cheap Spanish jerseys from the chino store and face paint. I honestly don't like soccer that much, but this was a game I had to go to. I do love watching sports and definitely have missed watching UVa basketball rock JPJ and tailgating football games. The stadium was packed when we entered and one of the first people we saw was Manolo el del Bombo--he happens to be a well known soccer fan who goes to every game carrying a big drum. He even has his own wiki page! He circles the stadium multiple times getting the crowd hyped and playing different beats on his drum. Unfortunately Spain lost in the final minutes of the game 1-0, but I had so much fun - I loved the energy at the game and enjoyed watching beautiful European men play soccer (lols). Next game, Celta (the soccer team of Vigo)!
