So I know in an earlier post I said I have been avoiding the auxiliaries in my group to hang out with all my international and Spanish friends I have made so far but seeing that all of the natives have already visited the famous Las islas cies, I decided I would make a post in the facebook group to see if anyone wanted to go. Luckily, three other people were interested and we sailed on to the islands! The forecast called for clouds, but as Galician weather can be very unpredictable, it was an incredibly sunny day without a cloud in the sky. God seriously blessed us with such good weather for our trip over there. The islands are a 45 minute boat ride from el porto de Vigo which is right behind my apartment complex so it was an easy walk and the ticket wasn't bad at all--11 euro round trip. People always say, "Wow this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen" whenever they see something new or different but definitely hands down, these islands were beyond the most beautiful I have ever seen. It's honestly so hard to describe how breathtaking they were, but it is definitely a must see! The island has a total of 9 beaches, and we decided to stray from the main playa de rodas and found playa nosa señora. It had crystal blue water and a high tide with the waves crashing against the rocks. Luckily the water wasn't too cold so we were able to go for a swim! Before relaxing on the beach, we trekked up to monte faro which was the highest point of the island--It was about a 2 hour hike and the hike up there was absolutely stunning. At the very top we found a lighthouse and had a view of the whole island. We even saw Vigo from afar and could make out playa samil. It was incredible. There are 2 other hiking paths--alto del principe y monteagudo, but we decided to do the lighthouse one because it is the most popular one and had the best final view. We finally headed back to Vigo around 7 and had dinner at a restaraunt. This was my first time having dinner outside the house and tried some of the suggestions my students gave me, pulpo (octopus) and mejillones (mussels). It was amazing and the seafood is just as good as everyone raves it to be! All in all, it was a goregous day with amazing people!
